LANAP® | Laser Treatment in Norwalk CT

We always provide the latest dental technologies to improve our patient’s experience at our Advanced Dental Center in Norwalk, CT. We are pleased to offer the LANAP protocol at our office to help treat patients with periodontal disease. LANAP stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure. The LANAP Protocol is the world’s first and only FDA cleared laser-based breakthrough treatment offering a much less painful and more successful alternative to conventional surgery. Laser treatment is far less frightening, results in fewer bouts of anxiety, and is much quicker than traditional dentistry methods. You also will thoroughly enjoy that you’ll spend less time in the chair, heal more quickly, and achieve your very best in terms of your smile and oral health.

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in people over age 35. Fortunately, most gum diseases can be prevented. Now we can treat gum disease without scalpels or sutures. The LANAP is the only scientifically researched surgery proven to regenerate gum tissue, new bone growth, and gum tissue reattachment to your teeth! It is minimally invasive compared to traditional gum disease treatment that involves cutting into the gum tissue, folding it back, and then manually cleaning the teeth to remove plaque and tartar accumulations below the gum line. There is no cutting and no suturing with the treatment, and patients typically report less pain and discomfort during and after the LANAP procedure than traditional periodontal surgery. The LANAP protocol can re-grow the tissues and bone lost to gum disease and has the science and research to prove it.

The LANAP protocol is typically performed under local anesthesia. Before the procedure, the hygienist does a periodontal charting and takes X-rays to make a proper diagnosis and determine the extent of the disease. The doctor then uses a tiny laser fiber (about the thickness of three human hairs) inserted between the tooth and the gum, and the infection and disease are cleared away without cutting the gums. The tooth roots are then thoroughly cleaned of tartar and plaque, and the laser is used again with a different setting to create a stable, firm fibrin blood clot to seal the pocket. One-half of the patient’s mouth is done at each session, and most patients can drive themselves back to work or home following the procedure. This is an outstanding tissue-preserving, regenerative, and bone-building treatment.

Some of the primary benefits of LANAP laser surgery, compared to traditional cut-and-sew surgery, are:

  • Less pain

  • Less bleeding

  • Less sensitivity

  • Less gum loss

  • Less swelling

  • Minimal downtime after treatment

  • Fewer post-op infections

  • Promotes regeneration of supporting gum tissues

  • Healing is perceived to be faster and more comfortable than conventional surgery.
